P.P.: Yes, it's plenty thick enough for a plains-length bow if not too narrow at the handle. If a narrower grip is you goal, take the bow to almost full tiller then slowly reduce handle width till you...

I just thought of something else. I'm thinking of making the bow about 45 to 55 inches in length with about a 50 lb. draw weight. Is that reasonable with what I'm working with?

2" wide and 72" long is a lot of bow!! 12" to 16" centered on handle should be fine, reduce ends into limbs that way it should not pop off. use a differend color wood or put a piece of red veneer...
